Invitation card to a 40th birthday party
With great pleasure I was allowed to design an invitation card for a birthday party. The customer showed great trust in me und gave me a free hand. What an honour - I felt very rewarded! Since I already knew the client before, I tried to create something corresponding to her character. The result was a playful, colourful folding card. Guests have to announce their participation with a talon, whereupon they tell the hostess their favourite cooking recipe. And so a part of that gift returns to her in many ways.
The pleasure can be found in the details... To create all these tiny "cookies" sweetened my work.
A privat Wine & Dine event
An unforgettable journey
On Thursday, February 9th, I had the possibility to participate for the first time in a Hike & Sketch by the freelance nature connoisseur and illustrator Ueli Bieri. From a point called Schüpferegg in Entlebuch, we went on a easy hike with stops at magnificent places. Always a chance to try to put a motif on paper in 15 minutes. And for me, riddled with many challenges: how do I represent snow on a white piece of paper? How do I capture the perspective correctly? And how do I have to proceed tactically to apply watercolour in a short time that hardly dries at winter temperatures? Overcome mental boundaries and fears, just get startet. Nothing has to be perfect - the attempt alone counts. And so memories were created that are welcome to stay.
An absolute instructive and eventful excursion, to be heartily recommended!
Christmas tree decoration with calligraphy
Outlook on Christmas
Nature shows itself in a colourful autumn dress, and Christmas is slowly approaching - so soon there will be markets again where I will participate. For me very concretely:
Sunday, november 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the occasion of the Sunday sale in Langnau i.E./BE
Many highlights await visitors - from all sorts of attractive market stalls and catering facilities to musical entertainment of various styles to children's attractions or a tombola. More than 30 shops have open their doors. For more information: vps-langnau.ch.
Saturday, november 26 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Entlebuch Christmas Market in Entlebuch/LU
The attractive Christmas market on the school building area "Pfrundmatt" enchants with its enormous versatility, and offers a varied program for young and old. While outside, you can stroll through the festively decorates stalls, its possible to watch artisans at work inside. Among other things, visitors can expect an Advent concert, candle pulling, folklore performances and taste all sorts of culinary delights. And don't forget to hand over your written dream to the wishing tree... We are looking forward to it! Form more information: flyer or weihnachtsmarkt-entlebuch.ch.
From an idea to the realization
It was my honourable task to put his words on paper in a appropriate manner and to find a suitable frame for it. The challenges are often hidden in the small things, such as finding the balance between written and empty space and at intervals, or quite "simple" in achieving an equalized set of center lines.
Title written in Baroque Fracture with iron gall ink, gold and China ink; main text (cap height 3 mm) in my own handwriting with Chinese ink on elephant skin paper (A3).
Wild plant and herb market Escholzmatt
Springtime
This market, which is now popular far beyond the region, makes not only the hearts of gardeners and nature and plant lovers beat faster - it also offers regional culinary delicacies and a wide range of handicrafts. The whole program, travel plan and further informations can be found in the flyer.
In addition, I have two or three new items for you: for example, labels for pots and gardens, bookmarks for bookworms, lucky charms to carry in a pocket and all kinds of hand-written porcelain. You can also watch me doing some calligraphy or have herbal signs written for you at the stand. I'm looking forward to it - so see you soon!
Pleasing summer market
The summer market in Schüpfen/BE took place on 21 August in beautiful weather and hot temperatures. Many visitors seemed to take advantage of the fresh morning hours to stroll through a market again. Once more I enjoyed the encounters with the customers - whether it was a familiar face or a new one, the exchange was thoroughly a pleasure. Thank you very much for that!
Even though my market stall was dominated by dinnerware this time, some of my cards will be sent by post in the future.
I will participate in a market again
Even though the Corona situation is far from letting us go, life still happens. And so I am taking part in a market again, more precisely at the Sommermärit in Schüpfen/BE. I'm really looking forward to it and can't wait!
A short thank you and its long journey
I had been looking for a German dictionary in broken script for some time when I came across a private advertisement offering "Der Grosse Duden" from 1932, 10th edition. I registered my interest and the very next day the owner contacted me. The conversation was very pleasant and, contrary to current practice and my gut feeling, we agreed that I would send her the money by post. For this purpose, I quickly wrote a short thank-you note without prescribing or lining it. The same day, I took the envelope to the post office and looked forward to receiving my package.
The letter should have landed in the lady's letterbox the next day. But instead, she called me a few days later, worried, to tell me that she still hadn't received the money. Of all things! We were at a loss and agreed to wait a few more days, otherwise I would transfer the money to her. In the meantime, her parcel had arrived and I was holding a Duden in perfect condition, what a treasure for me!
Labels now available in the shop
Who does not know it? You have a spontaneous invitation, someone is ill or you just want to surprise someone with a small gift - but you don't have the time to add a personal touch. That's where pre-printed gift tags come in handy.
In my small shop under "Other" you can find labels in three languages for many occasions - with a touch of nostalgia, printed on robust half cardboard and pre-punched.
Free handwriting
The garden is in hibernation, the household is done and a day off is on the cards - these are the precious moments when I can try out new things on a whim.
It doesn't always have to be classical calligraphy. Here I took a song lyric ("Native Son" by Bryan Adams) and tried to put it into a suitable form. I used one of my cola pens to write letter after letter in a very simple capital font. I had brewed the brown ink myself from tree nut shells in autumn. The paper is a 300 g/m2 mixed media paper in the size 42 x 60 cm.
Merry Christmas
Precisely because 2020 was a very special year in many respects, it is sometimes good to return to the roots and hold on to traditions. We celebrate Christmas every year. And whether you are closely connected to the Christian faith or not at all, the end of the year can be a time of reflection for everyone... How many in our society are not seen, for example because they are destitute, alone or mentally ill - or simply do not fit the mould. Let us pause for a moment and be grateful for what we have and are allowed to be.
I sincerely wish everyone a Merry Christmas and peaceful holidays - and a healthy, Happy New Year!
Christmas at "Schere Stein Papier"
Soon we will celebrate Christmas, and the cute little shop in Büren has prepared itself for Advent with all kinds of handicraft products, dimmed lights and a crackling fire in the fireplace. A colourful potpourri awaits visitors and offers a bouquet full of creative and lovingly designed gift ideas.
With the old year unfortunately also the time of "Schere Stein Papier" comes to an end. Reason enough to take a break - leave everyday life and worries behind for a moment and pay tribute to the end of his wonderful time with a last visit to the Lädeli.
The past does not come back and we do not know the future - let us enjoy the moment in the now!
No more markets this year
Due to the Corona Crisis, all the Christmas markets I would have attended have been canceled for this year. I support this decision, even though I lack personal contact with visitors to the stalls. If you want to hold cards or mugs in your hands before purchasing them, you can do so at Kreuzgasse 10 in 3294 Büren a.A., at the Schere Stein Papier gift shop. Or contact me by email at info@kalligraphina.ch.
Stay healthy and see you hopefully next year!
I'm invited by "Schere Stein Papier"
Hooray, I'm very happy: After the summer holidays, my products can be found in the small gift-wonder-soul-stroking-shop named "Rock Paper Scissors" in Büren an der Aare/BE. I can stay with Martina Schütz until the end of December 2020. Unfortunately, she has to give up her shop at the end of the year. If you don't stop by then, you've definitely missed something!
Further information can be found on the website of Schere Stein Papier.
Blackboard letterin for Chrüpfe beer
Board lettering for Chrüpfe Bier brewery in Oberwil b. Büren/BE. It was an honor for me – thanks a lot to Noël & team! The innovative brewery offers a varied range of beer, gifts, tours and much more. It's worth taking a look – e.g. in the "Fritigsbier": every last Friday of the month, Chrüpfe Bier opens its doors for a tasting in a cozy atmosphere and in good company. More at www.chruepfebier.ch. Bottom up!
Small herbs really large
Font is infinitely versatile – even in the herb garden! Old pottery shards are inscribed with the name of the plant and painted. Glued to sticks and set into the green, they are decorative and given a second life.
kalligraphina no longer at "Gleis 1"
For various reasons, I canceled the tray rental at the gift boutique "Gleis 1" in Aarberg/BE. You can order my lovingly hand-crafted products from me personally - and buy them on site as soon as the markets take place again.Cards are ready for dispatch within 1-2 days, a cup in around a week. This also applies if the subject is listed as "out of stock" – I would be happy to make copies on request. Do you have a special request? Contact me by mail info@kalligraphina.ch. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Have a happy, light and colorful spring time!
